Heart Day Hunt Part V

Before Rudi's question was out of his mouth, Brill was flighted and out of earshot, flying southward toward The Woodlands. The Orchid twins looked at each other, nodded, dressed warmly, and roused the three Pillow Whimbles. Soon afterward, with Trolliver pulling both Devon and Dillon in a sled, all were making their through the snow toward one of the most celebrated tree houses in Caelumen.
Manning and Sophie's feather vane home was nestled far far up in the oldest Woodland oak tree. The only access other than flight was a long long ladder climb. When visitors reached the top rung that day, they were amazed. The tree house was magically transformed. Paper lace valances adorned windows. A snowflake garland surrounded the entrance. Red and white heart mobiles were suspended from support branches that crisscrossed the living room ceiling. They turned and swayed slowly like so many velvet stars.
Rudi and Sasha's Companion, Elspeth the Elfin Dragon, was the first to arrive.
The night before she had joined the Solstice Night Dragons and Riders for a winter ride through the snow-filled skies over the northern seas. She regaled the awestruck Stafford the Tiny Tree Frog with her tales. This Woodland Companion was relieved to sit still for awhile after working so long alongside Manning and Sophie.
When the sun, Revelato, was overhead, the Orchid twins and three Pillow Whimbles reached the oak and climbed up the long ladder. Delaney carried his Companion, Trolliver, under his arm.
When no longer held, the lamb ran to greet Annabelle the Sweet Pea Whimble and her Companion Gillian while the Tiny Field Mouse secured the descending Thimballoon to a nearby branch.
On the oak's highest limb, Hillside Companion, Brill, waited patiently for Jacob and Wendell. He trilled away until they were in sight. The wren then counted each Whimble and Companion - fifteen. Excitement filled the air. (to be continued from The Upper Meadows to The Woodlands - Caelumen)
