This portfolio represents only a sampling of work from the past 18 years. It is interesting to note that the mythology around The Land of Caelumen became a focus for the artist years ago. Therefore, much of the work introduced here will reflect this mythology and may be viewed as puzzle pieces of the fantasy. The Whimbles and all the denizens of their land hope you will enjoy each creation.
Illustrations
I decided I wanted to write and illustrate fairytales in my latter teens. My illustrative style was honed to the rudiments of what is today when I received my MVA years ago. I continued to believe in my dream. To my delight it has manifested. The Whimbles are a reality.
Polaroid Transfers
This work is a small collection of Polaroid Transfers which were taken of my three dimensional fiber figures. These pieces were manipulated with Prismacolor pencils for further definition and enhancement.
Appliqued Work
This work may begin with a silk linen construction or may be applied to an antique and/or dyed fabric. As with the fiber sculpture pieces, more sumptuous fabric is added along with multitudinous embellishments to weave a unique and expressive story.
Fiber Sculpture
These figures, sewn from silk linen, are covered with many antique and dyed fabrics which are then embellished with beads, buttons, feathers, dyed yarns, shells and ribbons. Each face is drawn first with colored pencil and/or painted with gouache and gesso It is hoped that the care and many vintage treasures used to create these pieces will instill them with a magical spirit which may touch all who see them.
